To Know Christ

And Make

Him Known

Our History

Our Beginnings

In October, 1985, Sister Paula Fortier, Dr. DeWitt Baker, Rev. Ray Scribner, Bob Whitesell and others started Love INC of Huntington County. With a staff of just two, 63 individuals were served in the remaining months of that first year.

29 years later Love INC is still seeking to connect the local church to our friends and neighbors who are in need, serving over 4,500 people annually!

Growing Through Change

As our community's needs have changed so has our approach to ministry. Over the years we've developed many ministries to meet the changing needs. Some of these ministries have fallen away, and some are stronger than ever. In 2000 Love INC helped 5 local churches consolidate their food pantries and created the Huntington Community Food Pantry in the Love INC building! In the spring of 2011 Love INC opened their used clothing store Covered With Love which has been a great blessing to our community offering gently used clothing at very low prices. We even give out seasonal coupons so people who are in need can receive seasonal appropriate clothing for free! Other ministries that have developed along the way are the Diaper Depot, and the Supply Closet. In June of 2013 we suspended our rent and utility assistance program and replaced it with a new program called Loving Neighbors which seeks to put relationships in the forefront of our assistance programs.

Each year we also host a Back-to-School program that equips school aged children and youth with three new outfits and a backpack filled with school supplies so they can start the year off on the right foot! Around Christmas time we open our Christmas Shop where pre-registered families can shop for Christmas gifts for their children by giving a $5 contribution per child. It is our goal to help local churches respond to unmet needs in our community by sharing Love In the Name of Christ!
